This week we reflect and remember Holy Week and come to our knees with thanks, humility and praise.
Two thousand years ago, Almighty God endured the passion week for the salvation of those who call on him (Rom. 10:12).
On the Sunday, Palm Sunday, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem (Matt. 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-18).
On the Monday, Jesus cursed the fig tree (Matt. 21:18-19; Mark 11:12-14).
He also cleared the temple on this day (Matt. 21:12-13; Mark 11:15-17; Luke 19:45-45) and
He returned to Bethany with the twelve apostles (Mark 11:19).
On the Tuesday, the apostles saw the withered tree (Matt. 21:20-22; Mark 11:20-21).
The Olivet Discourse on end times on the Mount of Olives (Matt. 24:1-25:46; Mark 13:1-37; Luke 21:5-36).
On the Wednesday, Jesus continues teaching in the temple (Luke 21:37-38).
Sanhedrin plan the murder of our Lord (Matt. 26:3-5; Mark 14:1-2; Luke 22:1-2).
On the Thursday, Passover meal (Matt. 26:20-35; Mark 14:17-26; Luke 22:14-30).
Jesus prays in the garden of Gethsemane (Matt. 26:36-46; Mark 14:43-52; Luke 22:39-46)
Friday
Early hours Jesus is arrested (Matt. 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; Luke 22:47-53; John 18:2-12).
Jesus endures six trials, three Jewish:
1. Annas (John 18:13-24)
2. Caiphas and some of the Sanhedrin (Matt. 26:57-75; Mark 14:53-72; Luke 22:54-65; John 18:19-24)
3. Full Sanhedrin, likely after sunrise (Matt. 27:1-2; Mark 15:1; Luke 22:54-65; John 18:19-24).
And three Roman:
1. Pilate (Matt. 27:2-14; Mark 15:2-5; Luke 23:1-5)
2. Herod (Luke 23:6-12)
3. Pilate again (Matt. 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; Luke 23:13-25; John 18:28-19:16).
Crucifixion between 9 am and 3pm (Matt. 27:27-54; Mark 15:16-39; Luke 23:26-49; John 19:16-37).
Jesus is buried on Friday evening (Matt. 27:57-61; Mark 14:42-47; Luke 23:50-54; John 19:38-42).
Sunday – resurrection day, the tomb is found empty (Matt.28:1-8; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12).
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour appears (Matt. 28:9-20; Mark 16:9-20; Luke 24:13-53; John 20:1-21:25). He is risen and we will rise again because we are united with him.
