As Tygerberg is committed to assisting recipients manage costs, the waiting period is presently around fourteen months. It is therefore recommended that:
- Recipients select the egg donor
- Pay the agency fee upfront
- baby2mom will communicate donor details to Tygerberg and and facilitate donor screening and blood tests under the clinic’s guidance. This costs around R1 000. Recipients will be requested to pay this at point 3.
- baby2mom will remind Tygerberg on the first of every month of the recipient.
- In the event that another recipient selects the donor, she will assist someone else.
- When Tygerberg is ready to proceed, the treatment will continue.
- Donor will then report day 1 every month.
- If Tygerberg has capacity, treatment will proceed.
- Tygerberg will then issue a script to the donor. This is obtained from Dischem Canal Walk. Recipients will please need to pay for this medication on the same day to the pharmacy so that the sciprt can be prepared. The donor will then collect the medication when it is ready.
- At this juncture, baby2mom will please request the donor donation of R8 000. This is given to the donor on the day of egg retrieval after the eggs have been retrieved. Whilst the donor donation is ordinarily paid via the clinic, Tygerberg have requested that baby2mom undertake this service. SASREG have consented to this. This donor donation payment is required no later than when treatment is started so that baby2mom has the donor donation ready to give to the donor.
Notes please:
- Tygerberg are not able to give a plan as to when the donation can happen upfront. This is only given when they have capacity. To avoid upset and risks of donors withdrawing, the above process has been implemented.,
- baby2mom cannot influence the timing. It is entirely dependent on the capacity of the Tygerberg clinic.
- Whilst donors have committed to the process, if the timing is long, it may be that donors are no longer available and recipients have to select a new donor. Sometimes the delay is in excess of one year.
